I absolutely love coffee. Especially iced coffee in the summer. It's the perfect drink to cool you down and has just the right amount of caffeine for a pick-me-up! If I were to go to one of those chain coffee shops everyday, I'd be even more broke than I already am. Luckily I've found a way to make delicious iced coffee right at home.
Whenever my dad is done with the pot of coffee in the morning I take the extra and pour it into a pitcher. I set the pitcher in the refrigerator and the next day I have chilled black coffee. To add the "flavor" that most chain coffee shops have I simply bought some Coffee Mate Creamer. All of their creamers are gluten free. Hazelnut and Italian Sweet Cream are definitely my favorites! The next morning after the coffee has chilled in the fridge I just scoop some ice into a tall glass (about half way). Then I add a couple tablespoons of creamer. I stir with a spoon until it's blended well. Delicious! Coffee is even tastier when it doesn't cost three bucks a cup.
I really like the sound of this. I don't know why, but recently I have become a HUGE coffee drinker. Unfortunatly I always seem to be picking it up in the city and today I literally spent 6 dollars for a cup of iced coffee. What a rip right!? So this post couldn't have come at a better time. Thank again Marie, I look foward to making this one too!

ReplyDeleteThanks for this post, Marie! I love blended frappuccinnos so I'll have to try this iced coffee recipe out. It really is crazy for the chain stores to charge so much money for a dilly drink, especially when you've shown how easy it is to make it yourself. I'm sure I'll be able to find a mocha creamer that will be really delicious with it as well. I had no idea that not all coffee creamers are gluten free. It always amazes me to think of the little things that I take the ingredients of for granted. i can't imagine having to check every single label like you do, but I commend you for it!
ReplyDeleteMariel,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this post! I actually went to Port City Java this morning for my coffee wake-up call. I ordered the usual; a delicious cold chocolate mocha Frappuccino, doused in chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream. I have come to the realization that being a broke college student definitely puts a damper on my pocketbook expenses. I will have to try your recipe out...it sounds delicious!
